kazimar big mosque was the first muslim place in Madurai. It is claimed to be the oldest islamic monument. It is also known as periya pallivasal and is constructed by Hazrat kazi. This mosque can accommodate about 2500 people.

The mosque was founded by Hazrat Kazi Syed Tajuddin, a descendant of prophet Muhammad, who came from Oman during 13th century and received this land from the King Kulasekara.
