There had been a long persistent
demand from the Madurai people for a separate college for Women since
admission to Women candidates in the
city colleges was very difficult with the growing number of Women
students aspiring for college education
The Sourashtra college Managing Committee passed a resolution in
Sep. 1997 to start a Women's college. Later, it took specific efforts
and got the approval of the Government of Tamilnadu for the establishment
of a Women's college. It was proposed to start the women's college
at Pasumalai itself, adjacent to the land owned by the Sourashtra
College council where the Sourashtra College is now located. In a
separate enclosure of about 3 acres of land the Sourashtra College
for Women was started on 10.8.1998 under self-Finance pattern with
the following 3 courses |
