Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science was started in September 1994 by Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy Foundation, a charitable Trust incorporated as a Corporate Body under section 25 of the Companies Act as a “non – profit motive organization”, in order to promote educational, medical and social objectives of the society. The College has been approved by the Government of Tamil nadu and is affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, one of the oldest and reputed universities of India.

In the context of rapid growth of Tourism and the expansion of Accommodation Management, Hospitality Industry, Catering Industry, Institutional feeding, Offshore Catering, Airlines Catering, there is a great demand for professionally trained manpower in these special areas. Thus, it becomes necessary to prepare a person for a service-oriented career in the catering industry. The existing number of institutions is considered insufficient to meet the need of the hour for this type of specially trained personnel.
